The Middlesex Land Trust is pleased to announce that Kathy Blachowski has been hired as the land trust’s new part-time Communications Coordinator. Kathy has a diverse background in both the conservation and communication fields. She is currently also serving as Interim Communications Coordinator for the Connecticut Land Conservation Council, as well as serving as a Technical Editor for eWorld Editing since 2007. In addition, Kathy works in The Rockfall Foundation’s office and reviews corporate habitat certification applications for the Wildlife Habitat Council. She was born and raised in Portland, CT, and was valedictorian of Mercy High School’s Class of 1998, here in Middletown, CT. After graduating from Muhlenberg College in 2002 with honors in Environmental Science and a minor in English, Kathy spent 11 years living in Rochester, New York. There, she worked for an environmental consulting firm and then the Ontario County Soil and Water Conservation District, before settling into the position of Land Preservation Coordinator with the Genesee Land Trust, of Rochester, NY, and also working as a Senior Web News Researcher for Environmental Health Sciences. After the birth of her twin girls – Angela and Serena – in 2011, Kathy was a stay-at-home mom until she returned to Connecticut with her daughters and her husband, Jason, in November of 2013. She has taught environmental education classes for both Westmoor Park in West Hartford and the Connecticut Audubon Society Center at Glastonbury. Kathy currently resides with her family in East Hampton, CT.
